Nissan Micra, the much awaited small car in the Indian market, is today unveiled for the first time in the country at a ceremony held in Mumbai. The company has signed Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor as the brand ambassador. However, official launching will be done in the next month only. While unveiling the Micra, Nissan's first made-in-India small car, Mr Kiminobu Tokuyama, Nissan Motor India managing director and chief executive officer, told reporters that it was an important and memorable day for Nissan India and its partner Hover Automotive.
He was delighted to announce that Ranbir Kapoor is company's brand ambassador, after unveiling the Micra, its first made-in-India small car. Ranbir would endorse all Nissan's products and services beginning with the Micra, he added. The Nissan Micra is informed to be available in 4 petrol variants and a diesel variant,the model comes with segment first i key and push button start and stop facility that are usually found in luxurious cars. The company has already announced that it is going to start delivery of Micra in India form July 15th and around 400 units of this car have already been booked. The Japanese company is aiming to produce about 80,000 units of the car for the Indian market in Financial Year 2010-2011.
These units will be for both exports and domestic sales, Mr Tokuyama said. The company is manufacturing the Nissan Micra model at its Chennai facility which has an annual manufacturing capacity of 2 lakh units and it is to be increased to 4 lakh units in coming months. While elaborating the company's plans of exporting this model in foreign market, Mr Tokuyama said that exports at this stage would be greater than the domestic market. But it does not necessarily mean that the company is prioritising exports. Both the India market and the emerging markets are important to Nissan.
