To Do the Radiator Flush by Yourself

Radiator Flush
Radiator flush is a process where the original coolant is drained from the radiator and replaced with a special coolant or detergent mixture and fresh water. Why you have all the trouble to flush your radiator, anyway? Your car’s radiator and cooling system needs to be clean because it can gather solid deposits that can clog the cooling system. A quick inexpensive radiator flush can keep the system in shape. It is very important to change your antifreeze seasonally.
Now, before we share you the tips and tricks about the radiator flush, make sure to put your safety first. Wear safety boots, goggle, and gloves because you probably allergic to the liquid. Here is what you need to perform a radiator flush: head screwdriver or wrench, cloth rag, radiator flush solution, coolant, funnel, and used coolant receptacle.
First step on radiator flush is to drain the old coolant from the radiator. It could be anywhere along the bottom of the radiator, and it either a screw plug, bolt plug, or a simple drain valve. Place the receptacle under the drain to collect the old coolant.

The next step on the radiator flush as soon as you finish drain the old coolant is replacing the drain plug and remove the radiator cap. Add radiator flush solution to the radiator, and then fill it to the top with water. Replace and tighten the radiator cap, start the car and let it run until it gets to its operating temperature.
Adding radiator flush coolant
Let the car run for ten minutes with the heater on and move the temperature control to the hottest position. Turn the car off and wait for the engine to cool down. If the radiator cap or metal radiator is still hot, then do not open it. Wait until the cap is cool to be touched.
Now that the engine and the radiator cap or metal radiator is cool down, perform this next step on your radiator flush – open the drain and completely empty the contents of the radiator. This is depending on the size of your coolant receptacle and cooling system, because you might have to empty it into a separate container to make room for the second draining. Notice that you never ever pour the coolant on the ground. This is one of the reasons we remind you to wear safety boots, goggle and gloves; because the liquid coolant is very dangerous.
Draining the coolant
The last step on the radiator flush is refilling the radiator with fresh coolant. Remember to fill the radiator with a 50/50 blend of coolant and water. You can save the trouble of measuring by using the premixed coolant so you do not have to guess the exact measurement. With the radiator filled, go ahead and fill the plastic coolant reservoir if your car has separate openings, again with a 50/50 mix.
