Skoda planning to get “more affordable” in India

Skoda is known for its premium models in India. Even the small car, Fabia, from Skoda costs above Rs. 5 Lacs. India is a cost sensitive market and Skoda India seems to have realized this fact, as sources suggest that the company plans to get into a “little more affordable mode” particularly to target the Indian customers. Skoda India is looking forward to see an escalation in its sales volumes this year and for this the company is going to launch a car smaller than Fabia for the Indian buyers.

Thomas Kuehl, Head, Sales and Marketing, Skoda India, commented that Skoda India has always been known for its class and premium style. He added that this year the company is expecting to generate more sales volumes in India. The new small car is speculated to be based on the platform of VW Up! The car would not only be targeted towards the Indian market but would also be sold in the European markets. The car would be powered by a 1.0TDI diesel engine and a sub 1.0L petrol engine.

Although there are no official announcements on the price range of the car, but it is assumed to be shelved in the bracket of Rs. 3-4 lakh. The production of the car would be carried at the Chakan plant of the Volkswagen Group.
