Mahindra to launch a Made-in-India vehicle in US

Mahindra & Mahindra, India's largest SUV maker is all set to become the first-ever Indian company to sell Made-in-India vehicles in the US market. The Company is working hard on its plans of entering in the US market with a made-in-India vehicle so that it can capitalize on the opportunities existing in one of world's largest auto-market. According to some news reports, Mr Pawan Goenka, president of Mahindra's auto and farm-equipment operations, said in an interview, that the company would launch a compact Scorpio-based diesel pick-up truck in the United States by the end of this year.

The vehicle will be powered with a 2.2 liter, four-cylinder, engine and will be assembled in India. Currently, the company sells this truck in Europe, Africa and South America, and the truck will be promoted as a "no-nonsense" truck for work and play in US market. In India Mahindra has been doing well with selling some of the most popular SUV's including Mahindra Bolero (best selling SUV in India), Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra Xylo.

The Company already has around 80% market share in the SUV segment in India and is aiming to register a double digit growth in the Indian market this year.Few months back, the company had also indicated that it may establish its production facility in the US market if its pick-up truck gets a good response from the buyers, there. After the launch its pick-up will be competing with the some of the most popular brands in this segment, including Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier. However, Mahindra's vehicle will be unique in terms of fuel type as no other competitor provides the diesel run vehicle in this segment.
